'Independent geeks' shun iPad
While over half of respondents said they were not interested in the iPad, the survey focused on the 3% who are or will be iPad owners and the 11 percent who said the iPad is a ‘silly product'.
The application branded these 11 percent ‘critics' and says they tend to be ‘independent geeks' who prize self direction, shun conformity and have an interest in computers, video games and the internet.
MyType said: "If at this point you're imagining the classic young male geek, your stereotyped imagination is right. iPad Critics do tend to be young men. To add even more colour, they tend to have no children and little interest in family."
If a product's early adopters define its image, the application said the tablet computer "is seen as more of a power tool for elites than as the newest gadget for geeks."
MyType told The Guardian its data was gathered "with reasonable rigour. Any interpretation ... is clearly subjective. MyType made an honest effort to tease out the main themes of the data - but feel free to come to your own conclusions."
However, founder of psychology website Psych Central reportedly said the people conducting the poll did not "know the first thing about reporting statistics, or basic methodology in its own research. They tried to summarise a bunch of disparate traits into catchy marketing phrases to make news headlines - phrases that were neither particularly accurate nor particularly scientifically valid."
