Just before the weekend we saw invites for an upcoming Motorola Google press event being held on Thursday 11th July. The feature picture on the invite shows someone jumping into a lake making an 'X' shape, however they are accompanied by someone jumping in an 'I' shape.

Initial rumours suggested the 'X' was a sign that the Moto X smartphone, the company's first new smartphone concept since becoming a Google company, would be unveiled. Later sources speaking to CNet, to update their story, denied that this would be the case.

It is said that the upcoming Moto X will be highly customisable upon ordering with the choice of up to 12 case colours, the phone will be manufactured in Texas. Android Authority yesterday published a large selection of what it says are pictures of front panels for Moto X phones.

Roswell anniversary Google Doodle

A new Google Doodle celebrates the anniversary of the Roswell UFO Incident. This is a new interactive doodle and requires a computer/device that can run Flash to play the 'game'.

The game starts with an alien crash landing in Roswell, USA. Playing as the alien you have to use various items you find to help you find and collect the parts of your crashed spaceship and then jet away from Earth. If you play this point-n-click adventure and get stuck, don't have time to play it or just want to check out what happens you can watch the video below of someone else completing the game.

Or it could just be that the “X” and “I” mean “XI” - as in just being a reference to the date.

Now now, let's not get too sensible.
Exactly my thoughts too - with of course a nod to the Moto X
Am I the only person to read “Moto X” as the abbreviation that used to be used for that bike sport - motor cross? ;)

Be nice to see Moto come out with something unarguably up there with the best of them, but I'm not hopeful …
