Life is shiny

LG has unveiled 2 flagship devices at MWC- the Optimus 3D smartphone and Optimus Pad- an Android tablet running Honeycomb and both have 3D functionality.

LG is focusing on the premium market with high-end shiny offerings and has admitted it is aggressively trying to take a leadership position in the smartphone market this year.

The LG Optimus 3D is the first 3D smartphone on the block and lets users record, view and share 3D content. It features a dual-lens camera that enables users to capture any moment in true 3D which can then be viewed immediately on the 4.3-inch WVGA glasses-free display. There are also plenty of connectivity options including HDMI and DNLA.

The Optimus 3D includes a dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture.

Showing it is taking this competition lark seriously, LG said: "Equipped with a 1GHz OMAP4 dual-core processor and four times more video decoders than competing designs, the LG Optimus 3D doubles the graphics performance of its nearest competitor allowing users to enjoy superb performance while web surfing, running applications and enjoying multimedia content."

LG has also waded into the increasingly competitive tablet market with the Optimus Pad. The tablet sports an 8.9 inch display, LG says so people can use it with one hand, plus a 15:9 aspect ratio with full HD 1080p decoding for an ‘immersive multimedia experience' on the 1280 x 768 WXGA resolution widescreen display.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the tablet runs Google's latest platform optimised for tablet devices, Honeycomb, and claims to have a PC-like interface. Inside the Optimus Pad is a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

LG also claims that the tablet is the first with an in-built 3D camera. While the tablet does not support watching 3D films, users can capture video content in 3D to be viewed on a 3D TV or shared via YouTube 3D.

Orange is the first UK network to confirm it will stock the LG Optimus 3D as well as the previously- unveiled Optimus Black. Both phones are expected in Q2 2011.

The Optimus Black is the world's skinniest mobile at 9.2mm and has a 4 inch NOVA display plus a 2MP front-facing camera and support for Wi-Fi Direct for quicker data transfer,

No news on pricing for either handset just yet!

15:9 aspect ratio

I'm liking the competition though.
I quite like LG Phones, my Dad and I both have an Optimus GT540, which for a budget android phone packs a quite a bit for the cash.
