Saving the pennies
For Android fans eager to get their hands on Google's Nexus S handset, Christmas might just have come early, as The Carphone Warehouse and Google have cut the price of the new smartphone.
Google's unlocked handset is now on sale on the phone retailer's website for just £430 including delivery. The smartphone was priced at £549 before and at launch last week.
While no reason why the £119 price cut has been given, some commentators are speculating that Google might be worried about poor sales, especially as the phone has received mixed reviews, with many people unhappy about its similarities to the slightly older Samsung Galaxy S handset and the high price.
Contracts for the Nexus S start at £30 a month based on a 24 month contract and HEXUS has previously reported that some are identical to the cost of a Galaxy S. In fact, it would now appear that some Nexus S price plans have been cut in length too to 18 months, making them more appealing.
While the Galaxy S handset is still cheaper than the Nexus S at £380, many people might argue that the price difference makes the newer phone a compelling proposition in terms of value for money.
It will be interesting to note how much Google pushes the Nexus S- it has already tried a free phone giveaway stunt on Twitter.
Among The Nexus S' features is a contoured screen and NFC hardware, although it still runs the Hummingbird SoC.
