Koreans keen on keyboards

Korean electronics giant LG has been making great strides in the mobile phone market in recent years, but it's not necessarily the first brand you associate with high-end smartphones. It's seeking to address that perception today with the launch of its first Android based phone - the InTouch Max GW620.

It runs the relatively venerable Android 1.5 (otherwise known as cupcake) and offers access to the Android Market app store. As with so many recent smartphone launches, LG is assuming the desire to tell everyone what you're doing all the time will be a key driver, and is focusing on social networking with its propaganda.

One thing that does make the GW620 stand out from the Android crowd, however, is a slide-out QWERTY keyboard - handy for those of us who still think software keyboards are against reason and God.

Other clever-looking features include auto face-tagging, which not only recognises faces, but enables you to explore a range of communication options just by touching their face in a photo on the handset's touchscreen. There's also a 5 megapixel camera that can take video too.

The LG InTouch Max GW620 is now available ‘free' from T-Mobile on a £20 per month, two year contact and from Virgin Mobile on an 18 month contact costing £22 per month.

This is the best form factor to my mind, you get a big screen and a proper keyboard. I'd be tempted but I'd rather have a Droid/Milestone when it turns up on networks…
If this form factor comes out on snapdragon before i upgrade then il be a happy bunny
