There have been rumours of new Google Glass hardware on the way for several months. Now 9to5 Google has published a new gallery and written about the design and hardware of the so-called Google Glass Enterprise Edition.
You can clearly see the exposed inner circuits and hinge mechanism
The images of the Google Glass Enterprise Edition were discovered in a recent FCC filing. At that link you will find a collection of PDFs including several sets of photos. According to 9to5 Google's analysis the new Google Glass has a "more robust build, a larger prism, and has a hinge that allows it to fold and is built to withstand bumps and bruises in the workplace". Furthermore several wrinkles with the original Glass have been ironed out such as; power button placement, camera activity light and Google has introduced some degree of water and dust proofing.
Internal hardware is said to be improved, as you would expect. The tech spec of the new Google Glass Enterprise Edition includes a cooler running Intel Atom SoC, better battery life, and better wireless connectivity thanks to the addition of the 5GHz Wi-Fi band. 9to5 Google and the WSJ agree on the spec improvements, which will also include a magnetically attached battery boost pack.
Units are inches
Currently the new device is said to be in the hands of hundreds of users participating in the Glass for Work startups programme. Google has yet to officially announce the existence of this product.
