Following Tuesday's announcement by Apple in California, Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy have confirmed that they will be stockists of the new iPhone 4S. Expected in selected stores and online on 14th October, eager fans can pre-order the new handset at www.carphonewarehouse.com/iphone4s to be amongst the first in the UK to get their hands on the new device.
As the stockist of the original iPhone, Carphone Warehouse has five years of iPhone experience, and will offer the widest range of networks when the iPhone 4S goes on sale. Whilst initial stock levels will be limited, new customers can pre-order the black and white versions of the handset from today on Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile from free on a £46 per month contract. The retailers will stock the 16GB, 32GB and brand new 64GB versions. More networks are expected to follow in the coming days*.
On Tuesday Tim Cook unveiled the hotly-anticipated iPhone 4S which has the same sleek look and feel as its predecessor, but with all new upgrades where it matters. The phone includes a dual-core A5 processor, used in the iPad 2, alongside a new dual-core GPU which will increase the speed of its graphics up to seven times faster than the iPhone 4.
Perhaps the most exciting new addition to the iPhone 4S is the integration of Siri - a voice-controlled personal assistant that allows you to complete tasks on your phone via spoken commands. Siri can read text messages to you whilst driving, schedule calendar appointments, set alarms, provide the best route home and more. The technology comes following Apple's acquisition of Siri in 2010 and blends artificial intelligence with the already intuitive iPhone by personalising results to meet your needs and habits.
In addition, iPhone fans will be happy to see the offer of eight hours of 3G talk time, six hours of browsing, nine on WiFi, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music, meaning battery life has been extended. Plus, photography fans will enjoy the integration of an 8 megapixel camera, with a backside illuminated CMOS sensor for better low-light performance.
Andrew Harrison, CEO, Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy, said: "There has been more anticipation than ever surrounding the unveiling of the iPhone 4S. Tuesday's announcement marks another milestone in the history of a truly iconic mobile device. We've seen a lot of eager customers asking when it will be available and we are doing our best to offer as many devices as possible for both new and existing customers. The exciting new developments, especially the introduction of Siri, will no doubt be a huge draw for iPhone fans".
Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy customers can get their new iPhone 4S set up and ready to go with Geek Squad's free ‘Walk out Working' service. Geek Squad Agents can transfer contacts, images, videos and customise settings to suit our customers' needs.
Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy will also be stocking the new 8GB version of the iPhone 4, also from 14th October.
