Barcelona, Spain– February 15, 2011 – DivX®, a division of Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), and LG Electronics today announced that the LG Optimus 2X is the world’s first DivX Certified® dual-core smartphone. Powered by the high-performance NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset, LG’s new “super phone” with dual-core technology will provide the highest level of quality and optimized battery life for smooth DivX playback at HD resolutions. The companies will demonstrate the DivX HD™ capabilities of the LG Optimus 2X at Mobile World Congress 2011.
The DivX HD Certification program for mobile phones has been rapidly growing in popularity with leading mobile phone manufacturers. Currently there are over 30 mobile devices such as the LG Optimus 2X that provide easy playback of DivX HD movies.
“The LG Optimus 2X is an industry first, presenting powerful dual-core technology coupled with stunning DivX HD playback,” said Matt Milne, Executive Vice President and General Manager, DivX. “Together with LG we look forward to showcasing at Mobile World Congress how DivX technology can help consumers enjoy entertainment without boundaries.”
To enjoy DivX videos on the LG Optimus 2X, consumers can load their video libraries of both standard definition and HD movies in the DivX format on the internal and external memory (expandable to 32GB) and then watch their collections anywhere they choose. In addition, the LG Optimus 2X can connect directly to other DivX Certified devices, such as HDTVs, turning it into a powerful mobile set-top box in the living room. The LG Optimus 2X will also support the secure playback of major Hollywood titles in the DivX format from leading studios because all DivX Certified devices come with DivX digital rights management.
Now available in Korea, the LG Optimus 2X has a large 4-inch WVGA display, 8GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera, a Micro SD slot expandable to 32GB, all running off the 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The LG Optimus 2X also features HDMI mirroring, which allows content on the phone to be displayed on a large TV via an HDMI connection.
Known for great performance, visual quality, and interoperability on any DivX Certified device, DivX provides consumers with a comprehensive digital media solution supporting the majority of high-quality Internet video on their TVs or other consumer electronics devices. All DivX devices contain proprietary digital rights management technology and are capable of playing back premium movies in the DivX format from major studios.
