Summary, conclusion and table seance with Evette Fielding.
So let’s have a look at what we’ve got.First off, for players new to the game, F.E.A.R. is a damn fine shooter, even if this PS3 version suffers from flat graphics, a few bugs and frame rate issues compared to its PC and Xbox 360 cousins. Is it worth splashing the cash on? Sure, if you don’t have a decent-ish spec PC and own a PS3.
However, if you’ve played F.E.A.R. on either the PC or Xbox 360, stick with those versions as you’ll not only be disappointed with this PS3 incarnation, you might question whether that PS3 was worth the £400 you paid for it.
But if you fall into a third group, made up of people that own a PC and PS3 but haven’t played F.E.A.R., then I can only recommend you go and buy the PC version. Not only will the game be far cheaper, you can grab yourself the free multiplayer maps and the Extraction Point expansion pack. In fact, if memory serves, you can get all of that lot as a bundle now anyway.
So there you go. F.E.A.R. on the PS3 is only worth it if you’re looking for a shooter on your PS3, which, let’s face it, is desperately lacking in decent shooters anyway. Otherwise, stick to what you probably already have and save your money, there’s bound to be a better, dedicated shooter along sometime...
