Customise away...

Driver installation takes just a few minutes and gives you access to a very in-depth, and slightly overwhelming, set of features that you can undertake to customise your mouse extensively. You can assign up to 10 more commands on top of the 12 that you already have on the mouse, by using the EasyShift key (works just like a PC Shift key) to access commands. The software is well laid out with tabs across the top for various options, such as colour control and button assignment, and the distinctive black, white and blue ROCCAT branding makes it easy to navigate and read.

You can really get deep into the customisation of the light strips on the Kone+. The software allows you to program four different LEDs, two that sit on the top of the illuminated bars and two on the bottom. By mixing the four colours up you can blend them into one another to create a cool look, and there’s also the option to add effects such as ‘blinking’ or ‘breathing’ to give the mouse a distinctive style. You can adjust practically anything on the mouse from sensitivity to polling rates and you can also calibrate it to use on different surfaces. The Kone+ comes with a tracking and distance feature allowing you to calibrate the mouse each time you change surfaces. We used a ROCCAT Taito mousepad for our testing, but also switched to playing straight off the desk. Calibration takes about 30 seconds and the mouse impressively adjusts its settings accordingly to give you maximum control over it on any surface.

You can also store five profiles which you can switch on the fly via the commandable buttons and can set macros with ease. There are also 20 predefined macros for the top PC games, including the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2 and Crysis. Away from games, you can also use the macros for the likes of Photoshop, Skype and Word, and there’s already some pre-set ones for you to try out.

Movement tracking on the mouse is superb and we really felt in control during matches on Battlefield Bad Company 2. The 6000 dpi sensor is a little excessive compared to similar products, but the option is there if you’re brave enough to use it. The layout of the Kone+ is spot on and in conjuction with the Easy Shift button you can swiftly access lots of commands intuitively. Furthermore, this is a beautiful and stylish looking mouse with some great software attached. We loved the ROCCAT Kone, but the ROCCAT Kone+ goes that step further to deliver supreme performance and functionality. The steep price may put some gamers off, but we guarantee that once you get this beauty in your hands they’ll be no turning back.
