The official launch line-up for the Playstation 3 was revealed yesterday in Japan, but far more interesting (to us UK folks anyway) was that Sony also handed out a price comparison sheet to show the great dealthat consumers will be getting when they buy a PS3.
The fact sheet details the price differences between the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii and claims that Microsoft's console will actually costs $698 to buy, whereas consumers will be getting an apparent bargain by buying the PS3 at only $499. The fact sheet claims that the Xbox 360 core system requires users to purchase a 20GB hard drive, a HD DVD drive, a wireless controller and an Xbox live subscription. They add up the figures and apparently arrive at the whopping price of $698.
The information that Sony has presented is far from true. The Xbox 360 premium system only costs $399 and includes the hard drive, wireless controller and Xbox live subscription, and even if consumers bought the HD DVD drive seperately, it still wouldn't amount to the ludicrous price that Sony are claiming.
Of course this could all be an honest mistake, but seems to us that Sony are attempting to play down the fact that their console costs a small fortune to buy.
