While some music franchises, like DJ Hero and Guitar Hero, are dying a death, Ubisoft is just starting out on its ambitious new music project that will make use of a real electric guitar.

Rocksmith is the first and only game where players can plug any real guitar with a standard quarter-inch input jack into an Xbox 360, a PS3, or a PC and play through an in-depth library of music including everything from the latest hits to classic rock songs.

Featuring gameplay that automatically adjusts to the player’s skill level and game design that aims to make reading music visually fun and intuitive, Rocksmith "engages experienced musicians and those who are picking up a guitar for the first time." The game includes a sizeable library of music from classic rock bands to current artists, such as The Animals, The Black Keys, David Bowie, Interpol, Nirvana, and The Rolling Stones,.

“Rocksmith is the most authentic and addictive music game ever created,” said Geoffroy Sardin, HQ Chief Marketing & Sales Officer at Ubisoft EMEA.

Yeah but how about “a learn to play” function using these songs so non musicians can learn to play the guitar? That I would get…
Bit of a thread revival here - but this was launched in the UK last week and I got it today…all I can say is wow, this is even better than I thought.

Great for beginners (lessons galore!) and for near beginners like me who know the basics but can't string more than a few chords together. Having a heck of a lot of fun atm, its what rock band should have been imo. if I get round to it i'll try and do a review..but back to it now, just unlocked some Nirvana :)
