Electronic Arts multiplayer Xbox Live shooter, Battlefield 1943 has only been available for download for a matter of days, yet Xbox 360 gamers have already reached the target set by EA to unlock a new map.

Battlefield 1943 started out with just three classic maps, Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima, but now Xbox 360 gamers can gain access to a new map and a new game mode.

Reports state that Xbox 360 gamers racked up five million kills on day one of launch!

The killing milestone unlocks the Coral Sea map and Air Superiority mode for the game. Here's the details:

The battle for Coral Sea took place in May 1943 and was the first battle in history where aircraft carriers engaged each other directly with fighters. Thus, the skies of this 4th location are the ultimate dog fighting grounds in Battlefield 1943. Two aircraft carriers supply your team with all the F4U Fighters and Zeros you’ll need as your conquest to control the skies rages on. Use the volcanic terrain to your advantage and flank your enemies or weave in and out of the low arches to avoid enemy fire. Stay with your wingman, practice the Thach Weave, and soon you’ll dominate the skies of the Pacific!

Much like it’s cousin, Conquest, the goal of Air Superiority is to exhaust all of your enemies tickets by shooting down the opposing fighters. A tightly connected formation between a few allied planes will earn you a fearsome reputation and the title “Ace of the Pacific!”

Battlefield 1943 is available as a download for £9.99. Check back for our review, which should go live later today.
