Politically incorrect term results in recall
Mario Party 8 was released in the UK on Friday, but now Nintendo has issued a statement saying that all retail copies will be pulled from the shelves.
"[Mario Party 8] was launched in the UK today. Unfortunately we have discovered that a small number of games contain the wrong version of the disk due to an assembly error. We have therefore decided to recall all copies of the game from UK retailers so that this mistake can be corrected," reads the official website.
A number of websites are suggesting that the reason for the recall isn't entirely correct, but the actual reason is because the game contains the word 'spastic' in the script, a word considered to be a politically incorrect term of abuse for an ungainly or physically inept person. The word was apparently supposed to have been cut before the disc went into production, but there's obviously been a huge communication error and now Nintendo will now be relaunching the title in due course.
A new release date has yet to be announced.
