Would-be Wii hackers are going to be in for a tough time if reports on DigiTimes today are true. Apparently, Nintendo are tweaking the circuit layout of the Wii to prevent the use of console modification chips in their latest batch of consoles.

The new Wiis, which are part of new shipments of the console, have an altered circuit layout that makes modification more difficult than in earlier versions. Users attempting to mod the new consoles using current mod chips are very likely to damage the system, the site claims.

Of course, all this is going to do is slow down hackers progress with creating a mod-chip for Wii and may even put a few people off the idea altogether, but those who are persistent enough will get there in the end. Taiwanese retailers believe a new mod chip for the revised console will be available within a month.
