As Wii consoles continue to be snapped off the shelves as soon as they arrive in stores, Nintendo has pledged that they will increase production capability for Wii , but we have to be patient. Speaking to Games Industry.biz senior marketing director, Laurent Fischer said "We're delivering new units to market every week and everyone at Nintendo is working really hard to ensure it's harming the consumer as little as possible.".
"We know that in the Japanese, US and European market to find a Wii on a daily basis it's not so easy. You have to pre-register or pre-order from the retailer," he continued.
"We're having difficulty coping with demand because of the recruiting power of the Wii. It's even more powerful than anyone had guessed."
The intuitive, motion sensitive control of Wii means that a much wider audience than traditional ‘gamers’ are interested in the console – hence the surge in demand as Nintendo continues to broaden their grasp on the video games market. Across Europe in 2006, Nintendo has reached an installed base of 7 million with the handheld, touch-screen DS console – success which Wii aims to and looks like replicating in the home.
