Previously thought to have been canned, Nintendo has confirmed that its risque survival game, Disaster Day of Crisis is still on schedule for release on Wii.

Disaster: Day of Crisis, which requires players to survive devastating natural catastrophes,  recently caused a bit of a stir after receiving an 'M' rating from the Australian Classification Board for its violent theme.

Nintendo boast that the game will re-create the sheer terror of major catastrophes, which include racing a car down a mountain to escape a roaring pyroclastic flow, dodging toppling buildings during a devastating earthquake and swimming for their lives in a raging flood.

Disaster: Day of Crisis won't the only game competing for shelf space in this particular genre. Due for release at the end of 2008 is a game called Survivor for Xbox 360 and PS3, which takes the disaster theme one step further by offering players the chance to flee from 1982's Hurricane Andrew in Florida and navigate stairways and ventilation shafts as you furiously try to escape the Paraguay supermarket fire of 2004.

Other disasters that we'll be able to re-live include the sinking of the RMS Titanic, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.

We don't know whether we're excited or appalled.
