At a recent European Nintendo event, Laurent Fischer, managing director of marketing at Nintendo Europe dismissed the idea of a future storage solution, saying that it was only "geeks and otaku" who would be interested in such a thing. Bad move Laurent.
This week, he's obviously and wisely put his PR head on and has come forward to confirm that Nintendo is looking into a solution and is aware that customers are unsatisfied with the current storage space.
So a new HDD is coming then? Well, no, not according to the Fischer, who has told GamesIndustry that:
"We definitely detect that [consumers] are serious and we know there is an issue in this, so it's something that we're working on. Definitely there's no plan to issue hardware, an external hard drive, but we know that we have an issue."
So, Fischer reckons that a storage solution is on the way, but it won't be in the form of a HDD. Following his peculiar outburst last week, we haven't got complete faith in what Fischer has to say, but indeed if he is correct, then Nintendo could well be looking at flash memory sticks as an alternative.
It's believed that Nintendo may well announced this mysterious solution at E3 in July.
