Sony have chosen HMV to be their official retail partner for the launch of the PS3, possibly culminating with a midnight launch event at their store in Oxford Street.

Sony are yet to announce the launch date for the PS3 in the UK, but reports suggest that March 23rd will be the date in question.

HMV boss, Tim Ellis telling told Games Industry.biz, "We are currently discussing a range of possible options. I can't say right now whether this will include an official launch event, as such, but it's certainly the case that more and more publishers and games companies are approaching HMV following the success of a number of major launches over the last few years."

HMV were recently trusted with the official launch of Nintendo's Wii console with the event being a huge success

Sony are yet to confirm the partnership.
