Senior director of Sony Europe, Mick Hocking, has announced that a September PS3 firmware update will enable 3D playback from Blu-ray movies and YouTube, with support for 3D photos and PlayTV coming at a later date.

The first batch of 3D games was released last month, with games including WipeOut, Super Stardust and PAIN being bundled with Sony Bravia 3D-ready TVs.

If you're one of those people looking forward to 3D gaming that you may also be glad to hear that the new firmware update will apply to all PlayStation 3's including the first generation consoles.
