On his BBC Blog, Anthony Rose, head of Online Media Group, BBC Future Media & Technology, firstly writes about a new interface that has been designed to make using the iPlayer easier on Wii.
"The new Wii version has a simplified user interface that presents just a few options on screen at a time and nice big chunky controls - easy to aim at with a Wiimote", he writes.
You can view screenshots of the new Wii interface on Anthony's BBC blog page.
The next step for the iPlayer will be a PS3 version, though the BBC state that it isn't quite ready yet.
"The PS3 uses a slightly older version of Flash which doesn't support some of the features used in our media player, and the very promising Flash 9 update now available on PS3 has some compatibility issues. Our Flash developers are working on it, writes Anthony.
If you can't wait until the launch date, there is an unofficial version available, which you can use by pointing your PS3 browser at ps3iplayer.com.
"It's mainly a demonstration of how easily the BBC could support the PS3 with their Wii version. This does nothing more than mask your PS3's user-agent string and makes half a dozen changes to make the JavaScript and CSS function correctly on the PS3. It only took a day to produce, so come on BBC - how about implementing this properly?" wrote the anonymous coder earlier this year.
Seems that he won't have to wait too long for his wish.
