Blizzard showcases World of Warcraft

At Gamestars Blizzard Entertainment was pulling in the crowds with World of Warcraft or WoW, as they like to call it. Keeping well away from puns about WoWing people, I had a chat to find out more.

WoW is a MMORPG (massively mutliplayer online role playing game) set in the Warcraft universe. Players will be able to interact with thousands of other players in the roles of Warcraft characters. You'll be able to join up with mates online and go off adventuring, taking down the bad guys for their loot and treasure.

Playing a closed-beta version, the game looks very impressive with some cracking visuals to perhaps give Everquest 2 something to think about for sure. The game is easy and intuitive to control, an essential for online novices, but with a richness and complexity to attract and keep even veteran Ultima Online players like myself.

Once I had been levered off the game, I found out a little more. All the usual races are here to pick from, Elves and Humans through to Orcs and Dwarves. Blizzard have gotten round the age old problem of travelling long distances with the use of flying vessels and animals, meaning you can skip to the action without a tiresome 15 minute trudge first.

Planned player support should be superb with Blizzard having regional teams set up to help player with any problem they have. This makes WoW the first non-licensed game in Europe to offer this much help... a sure draw for beginners.
