Disney have recently stepped into the world of massively multiplayer online games with the imminent release of Pirates of the Caribbean Online on PC. At CES 2007, Disney have hinted that their latest game is only the start of turning their popular franchises into online games
"We plan to build more virtual worlds like "Pirates" based on a broad range of our properties. You can imagine living in Buzz and Woody's toy universe," said Chief Executive Bob Iger.
We're yet to see Pirates of the Caribbean online in action, but initial reports suggest that the game is heavily aimed towards a teen audience and lacks the depth of MMOs such as World of Warcraft. Disney have made no secret of the fact that their games are aimed at kids, but whether that's going to attract a huge online community for their latest subscription based MMO remains to be seen.
