The Steam Summer Sale started yesterday at 6pm UK time (10am PDT) with its first roster of nine daily deals. As was the case last year we are also treated to 'flash sales' of eight hours each, featuring four titles, and also a 'community choice' selection of titles which have been put into the sale via popular vote. The Steam Summer Sale will end on Monday 30th June.
On this first full day of the sale the daily deals include: Far Cry 3 with 75 per cent off (£3.74), The Witcher 2 with 80 per cent off (£2.99) and Deadrising 3 on pre-purchase with 25 per cent off (£29.99) – among others. These will all change at 6pm UK time tonight. At the time of writing the flash sales and community choice are about to reset. These sales events, at 8 hours duration each, should therefore change three times a day and keep you clicking and checking Valve's store.
Chance to earn free games this year
To add a bit of spice to the sale Valve has introduced the 'Steam Summer Adventure'. Actually qualifying for and winning games is a little bit complicated but the essence of what you have to do is as follows:
- You earn trading cards via store activity such as buying stuff, voting, trading, crafting badges or simply buying them.
- You need 10 such trading cards to craft a badge.
- The badges can be used to gain various in-game items and Steam user profile enhancements.
- Also you must click a button to join a colour team – which is randomly selected for you.
- Of the five teams that day, the one which gains the most points via member badge points tally wins. In the winning team 30 random contributing members get their top three games from their Wish List for free.
So before you fiddle around collecting trading cards and crafting badges you had better check your Wish List is up to date. I just checked my list and, of the four games in it, I have already purchased two of them via a GMG sale recently.
