Valve's Steam Store has a couple of free goodies for PC gamers this weekend. Both Saints Row IV and Company of Heroes 2 are available now for free download and play. The freebie playtime expires on both games at 1pm PST (which is 9pm GMT) on Sunday. Hopefully readers won't already own one of these top rated games titles so they can enjoy a bit of high quality free gaming this weekend.

Saints Row IV is a famously crazy continuation of the story of the Third Street Saints criminal gang. Just to make things more bizarre than the prequels the head of the Saints has been voted in as the US president and has to deal with an alien invasion. Alien weaponry, technology and superpowers make the action in this open world game the wildest ever.

So you can experience the Saints Row IV game for free and also Steam has the game on sale during the weekend, so if you like you can splurge on the game, discounted by 50 per cent to £14.99 until Monday 20th January.

Company of Heroes 2 is a WWII strategy game which uses the Essence 3.0 graphics engine. It is the sequel to the highest rated strategy game of all time and is set in 1941 at "the beginning of what will become the bloodiest conflict of World War II". You play as a Soviet Red Army commander and must use your best military tactics to tip the balance of power in your favour and repel the invaders and push them all the way back to Berlin.

Again Steam has put this game on sale past the duration of the free weekend gaming and you can pick it up until 20th January for £10.19, that's 66 per cent off the regular price.

I got Saints Row IV as part of my AMD Never Settle bundle and I have to say I'm slightly disappointed so far given all the rave reviews.

I felt the same after getting it on a Humble Bundle, but when I realised I had paid about 50p for it…it became a great game. Compared to any other game costing 50p on the market, it's not half bad at all!
I got SR4 in the recent Steam sale. I'm of the opinion that it's absolutely bucking frilliant. It's one of the very few games that feels happy to be unrestrained. Games like this, Just Cause, and Serious Sam, put a much-needed OTT spin on gaming, without the “realism” that most modern games feel bound by.

That, plus driving around to Haddaway in a tank while gunning down everything in sight is just giggle-inducing.

How so? Cerebral it's not, but I'd be interested to hear what's been the let down.

Okay, it's not got that massive open world of GTA V, but then again it didn't get the the hypegasm that GTA V got. And I've got to admire the sheer bare-faced (in some cases literally) of it.

Biggest disappointment for me was that once you've completed it, there's no real excuse to fire it up again unless you're bored. Although the Christmas DLC was - imho - brilliant. Oh, had 15 minutes spare last night and fired it up and got three warden encounters in that time. :(

Minutes of juvenile amusement with that plunger gun, although the Dubstep cannon on Polka mode is also smile-worthy. Disintegrator or the sword from the Anime DLC are a bit worrying though.

I can't put my finger on any particular reason but if I say…that having played it for an hour or so before Christmas, I haven't felt a single urge to fire it up again…then you will probably understand.

I'm not saying it's bad, just that so far it hasn't floated MY proverbial boat.
