Star Trek Online open beta kicks off

Star Trek Online for PC has entered the open beta phase, bringing fans one step closer to playing in the final frontier before its release early in February.

The open beta runs through January 26, 2010. Fans with valid open beta keys can explore the Star Trek universe and play the first-of-a-kind massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Taking place in the year 2409, Star Trek Online boasts extraordinary features and lets fans both new and old experience unparalleled adventures. Players will have the opportunity to become a high ranking Starfleet officer and will participate in missions that will take them into the depths of space, across exotic planets and even inside other starships. Star Trek Online offers total customization, where every ship players command can be customized, from color to construction. Additionally, anyone can create their own species in Star Trek Online, as well as customize the look of their avatar’s uniform.

Star Trek Online allows players to become a warrior in the Klingon Empire or join the Federation’s esteemed Starfleet and explore a never-before-seen, completely interactive Star Trek

I believe Massively had some going free, but as always they don't last very long due to the masses that want to try out the game before purchase.

Keep an eye on IGN, Massively and other big sites for potential Beta Key giveaways though.
Any one had the luck to get one, tried getting one, but no luck.
nah no luck, and i aint paying the price tag until i play it a little :)
I'd love people to post experiences, as i am a huge Star Trek fan, however have generally been burnt by most ST games. Plus, i think that the trailer looks generally rubbish - the graphics look straight out of 2005, and have been rendered at about 10 fps (i'm sure this is probably just down to the encoding, however leaves an impression of the game itself being slow and stuttery).
Oh, and as for content, the trailer suggests that its just one big frag-fest, either land-based or space.

I just hope that they picked an idiot to make the trailer, rather than the trailer being accurate about the game….
