Gizoo's Wind-Up Remote Control aims to solve the problem that has plagued remote controls for years; dead batteries.
The universal remote, pictured right, features a built-in generator and we're told 30 full turns will charge it for approximately one week.
We're not sure how much generated power the remote can store at any one time, but if there's room, a mere 1,560 turns will keep you charged for a whole year.
It'll work with just about all your AV equipment, and Gizoo points out that the battery-free design is also environmentally friendly. All this for only £19.95.
The official product specification is listed as follows:
- 30 revolutions gives a full charge
- Can control up to 6 different devices
- Product Dimensions: (H) 22cm x (L) 5cm x (D) 3.5cm
- Box Dimensions: (H) 30cm x (L) 16cm x (D) 4cm

Changing batteries once a year, or 30 rotations a week. It's a tough call, but I think I'll be sticking to my standard remote. Anybody going to give the Gizoo wind-up a try?
*Update* It turns out that Scan.co.uk already has a battery-free universal remote available, and at a cheaper price of £10.56, too. Anybody tried it?
