Handset manufacturer HTC launched it latest smartphone, the Hero, last week. Chock-full of features and powered by a combination of ARM hardware and Google's Android operating system, it will be available in mid-July from Orange and O2.

Orange will be providing the Hero 'free of charge' but on £39.15 per month contract that lasts two years. However, if you don't want to be tied down to a provider and would prefer a SIM-free Hero, Expansys is listing the handset for £399.99, including VAT, along with £30 worth of vouchers.

£400 seems steep but the pricing is in line with the various iPhone incarnations and cheaper than a Nokia N97. Would you consider one? Let us know in the forums.

In terms of productivity, Win Mobile > Everything else, of course this comes down to a matter of opinion, as always.

iPhone doesn’t come close to the Touch Diamond 2 or the Xperia X1 in terms of productivity, yes we all know the iPhone beats everything else in terms of sales and newspaper column inches, and it has a lot of gimmicky apps to please its customers for about 5 minutes, but for people who actually work from their mobile phones, its useless.

Android has yet to mature, but straight away we know the HTC Hero has no Keyboard, so it’s not for productivity, so because of that, I’m out. :)

(Also I have very large fingers and cant type on touchscreen keyboards, this may or may not be the reason I am looking forward to the Palm Pre)
is that a new version of Touch flo :D
