Those mammoth LCD screens on show at CES aren't for consumers, they're all about bragging rights, surely? Nope, not at all. Sharp's 108in LCD monster, pictured below, has reached retail in Japan.

The enormous display, pictured below, will set you back an equally enormous ¥11 million (approx. £52,000).

If you're contemplating making a purchase, be sure to factor in shipping costs as this 195kg TV won't be easily moved.

On the spec-front, it offers a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, 6ms response time, 176-degree viewing angle and 400 cd/m2 brightness. It is, of course, full HD and connectivity comes in the form of three HDMI, one DVI and two component ports.

It'll also leave quite the footprint, the display measures over 5ft tall and consumes some 1130W of energy. But what better way to watch EastEnders? Any takers?

damn, where would u put it? well i guess if u have the money to pay for a massive LCD TV, u'll have a equally massive living room to put it in.
Well you say “retail” but you aren't going to find it in your highstreet electrical store are you? :)

I can't decide whether the main market for this will be overpayed “celebrities” and sports “personalities” or the corporate sector.
thing is, 1080p isn't really enough.

how will you get content to drive it?
Well it depends, as a presentation or advertising screen driven by a PC i think it would be great.

I can imagine these going used as medium sized billboards in airports. especially when rotated 90degrees as seems to be common practise now.

More importantly, how would you get in through your door……
