AUSTIN, TX - July 07, 2003 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced Microsoft(r) has released a Board Support Package (BSP) for the AMD Alchemy(tm) Solutions DBAu1500(tm) development board. The BSP allows developers to speed deployment of next-generation devices that take advantage of the combination of the Microsoft Windows(r) CE operating system and the high-performance, low-power AMD Alchemy Au1500(tm) processor. Used by OEMs, the BSP will aid in quick development and decreased time-to-market for devices such as thin clients, handheld devices and wireless access points. With Microsoft's release of the BSP for the DBAu1500, the entire AMD Alchemy Solutions processor family is now certified on Windows CE 4.2. "The Microsoft BSP for the DBAu1500 gives developers seeking a combination of cutting-edge hardware and software the ability to leverage a rich, real-time embedded operating system for the development of high-performance, low-power hardware," said Todd Warren, general manager of the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft Corporation. "Our BSP support of the DBAu1500 delivers the foundation needed to rapidly create the next generation of media-rich, reliable, small-footprint Windows CE-based devices."

Windows CE .NET 4.2 BSP for AMD Alchemy Solutions DBAu1500 development kit includes source code for a boot loader for initializing and customizing hardware, device drivers, and a corresponding set of configuration files. With the Microsoft BSP, customers have the ability to configure the package to select desired peripherals, operating system features, file systems, and memory types.
"We are excited to be working with Microsoft to offer our customers a full development solution that enables them to quickly and efficiently create rich multimedia and connected devices," said Phil Pompa, vice president of marketing for AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. "Microsoft's BSP can help shorten our customers' time-to-market and reduce development costs, and in combination with the DBAu1500, it enables the development of products with increased functionality and low power requirements."

About the AMD Alchemy(tm) Solutions Au1500(tm) processor
The Au1500 processor is a MIPS32(tm) technology-based system on a chip (SOC) processor, and is available at speeds of 333MHz, 400MHz and 500MHz, with power dissipations of less than 400 milliwatts, 700 milliwatts and 1.2 watts, respectively. With highly integrated system peripherals, including a 33/66MHz 32-bit PCI Controller (PCI 2.2 compliant), GPIO, two 10/100 Ethernet Controllers, USB Device and Host, two UARTS, an AC-97 controller and a PCMCIA controller, the Au1500 processor can provide lower system costs, and can enable smaller form factors, simpler designs and shorter design cycles.
The Au1500 processor's integrated dual Ethernet MACs (Medium Access Controllers) help to enable secure firewall functionality for use with today's broadband Internet access. Its integrated Universal Serial Bus (USB) host and device ports enable user-friendly PC peripheral applications, and its Peripheral Component Interface (PCI) allows system design flexibility for home and small office networking products.
