Delivering Total Immersion in Home Entertainment
Located at booth 9827 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Dolby is highlighting set-top boxes, televisions, and audio-video receivers featuring Dolby Volume, a breakthrough premium audio processing technology providing a consistent volume level across all content sources and creating a superior listening experience at any level. Dolby’s booth showcases new devices and media which support Dolby Digital Plus high-definition audio, including the VUDU™ streaming movie service. VUDU uses Dolby Digital Plus to deliver 5.1 surround sound for its service on televisions from LG, Mitsubishi, Samsung™, Sanyo, Sharp, and Toshiba, as well as Blu-ray Disc players from LG and Vizio. Dolby Digital Plus is a scalable technology designed specifically to meet the evolving demands of content delivery. For broadcast and streamed entertainment media applications where bandwidth is at a premium, Dolby Digital Plus is measurably more efficient than Dolby Digital allowing broadcast operators to deliver more HD movies and programming with spectacular surround sound. Dolby Digital Plus is also an important feature in the Blu-ray Disc format, supporting primary 7.1-channel audio as well as multichannel secondary audio support.
Dolby Digital Plus has been adopted by the world’s leading TV and set-top box makers to deliver surround sound for next-generation television. Today, more than 2,000 television models from 19 TV manufacturers offer Dolby Digital Plus, including Sony® and LG who are announcing new televisions for the European market. Additionally, more than 50 set-top boxes from 26 set-top box manufacturers support Dolby Digital Plus. France, Italy, England, Spain, and Sweden have all established Dolby Digital Plus as the broadcast audio standard for HDTV services.
Dolby is displaying Dolby TrueHD, a lossless compression technology developed for high-definition disc-based media, and an important technology in next-generation home theater systems. More than 560 Blu-ray Disc movie titles from 33 studios feature Dolby TrueHD, including Paramount’s Star Trek, one of the year’s best-selling releases. On display at the Dolby booth will be several original props from Star Trek 2009 including scale models of the U.S.S. Enterprise and the actual captain’s chair from the movie set.
Dolby is also demonstrating Dolby Pro Logic® Iiz, a matrix decoding audio technology, adding a new sense of depth and dimension to home entertainment by employing front height channels in a 7.1- or a 9.1-channel audio experience. Introduced last year on audio-video receivers (AVRs) from Denon, Integra, Marantz, and Onkyo, Dolby Pro Logic Iiz is now available in select new AVRs from Sony. Dolby Pro Logic Iiz, recognized by Popular Science magazine as one of the Top 100 innovations of the year, won the coveted “Best of What’s New” award in the home entertainment category.
