Murdoch even threw out a veiled threat of legal action, noting "There's a doctrine called 'fair use', which we believe to be challenged in the courts and would bar it altogether." He was careful to add, however that News Corp would "take that slowly."

It's not the first time Murdoch has made noises about paid content. Earlier in 2009 Murdoch announced his news web sites - which include the Times and the Sun in the UK the New York Post and Wall Street Journal in the US - would start charging people for access, with the aim to have all his sites subscription based by June 2010.

The risk, however, is that more people will turn to the still freely available sources of news out there, driving traffic to News Corp sites way down.

Indeed, it's hard to see how Murdoch's plan won't backfire unless other content providers follow his lead. But then again, perhaps that is the old Aussie's master plan.

Here's the interview in full.

I guess the irony of Sky News having a YouTube channel is lost on old Rupert :)
What I find ironic when asked “are you losing money?” he says “no.” So, what's the problem? If you're making money… what's the problem?
If he believes he can make more money he is obliged to do so for the sake of his share holders.
Hurry the **** up, Rupert. Your trash is still infecting my searches
Or maybe he just wants to pander to those people who believe the BS his media outlets spout…. This way people who aren't prepared to pay for faux news will be excluded from his mind washing….
