The House of Lords has today announced its latest outreach initiative, a YouTube channel which it hopes will encourage young people to get involved in politics.
The arrival of the YouTube channel follows the recent launch of the House of Lords' very own community-orientated website, Lords of the Blog.
The Lord Speaker, Baroness Hayman, said:
"The launch of the House of Lords videos on Parliament's YouTube channel is just one element of our ongoing efforts to engage with the public and young people in particular."
"The videos we have placed on the YouTube channel reflect the diversity and expertise in the House of Lords and its relevance to young people, and we hope that they will help to combat some of the outdated stereotypes of members of the Upper House."
The first five videos, which happen to go live at 10:30am on Friday 13th of all days, will be the following:
- House of Lords: What's it all about?
- House of Lords: Fifty years of change - Life Peerages Act
- The Lord Speaker goes to school
- Why get into politics?
- Highlights of the United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP) event in the House of Lords
The House of Lords is pulling out all the stops in an effort to make Parliament cool, all we need now is Gordon Brown on Facebook and iPhones all round.
If you've a genuinely keen interest in Parliament, head on over to the YouTube channel at youtube.com/ukparliament.
