Two Larrys and the top ten
Oracle's chief Larry Ellison is the second richest man in America's tech industry and takes third place on Forbes' list.
In the news recently for his spat with HP over its former head, Mark Hurd, the firm has reportedly acquired 66 companies since its beginning. Ellison is one of the highest paid execs in the country but has generously taken a salary cut to $1m, according to Forbes as well as gaining $960m in compensation in the past 5 years alone. However, a keen yachtsman, Ellison has won America's Cup after spending about $100m trying over a decade, and reportedly intends to leave 95 percent of his vast fortune to charity.
Another successful Larry, Larry Page takes 11th place on Forbes' 400 list along with his co-founder at Google, Sergey Brin. Both Brin and Page are thought to be worth $15bn each from setting up the search engine in a friend's garage. Page has also invested in solar and geothermal companies and together with Brin has also helped bankroll Tesla Motors. He is said to earn $1m a year at Google, whose logo is inspired by Lego bricks which Page used to build a printer at college, according to Forbes.
Meanwhile Brin, the son of a research scientist at NASA, has reportedly been focusing on raising margins at Google with its new Instant Search. Having found out he may develop Parkinson's disease in later life, he has ploughed money into research and practices yoga and aerobics. One more random fact? The Google boys share a 767 jet but Brin also invests in a private space travel business.
