Nothing to see here

There was little information available when the world's media were initially speculating about the imminent launch of a $10 laptop by the Indian human resource ministry. It looks like facts were in short supply at the unveiling itself, too.

The Times of India is reporting a: "computing device is 10 inches long and 5 inches wide and has been priced at around $30 at the event."

It looks like the supposed laptop is in fact just some kind of external hard drive or base-unit at best, which is intended, perhaps, to act as a server for laptops and thus enable cheaper ones to be developed. But as we said, details are sketchy.

Anyway, the Times has dismissed the launch as a "damp squib". HEXUS readers may be tempted to give the device their own moniker by playing with its official name: Sakshat.
