Smart decisions
If there are still any doubters that Android is for real, they will be silenced by HTC's Q2 earnings. With the possible exception of Motorola, HTC is the handset maker most committed to the Google OS and it's just announced record revenues for the quarter.
Total Q2 revenues were NT$ 60,532 million, which represents a jump of 58.45 percent on the same quarter a year ago. HTC also reports on a monthly basis, and its June revenues of NT$ 23,858 million not only represent a 66.68 percent increase on June 2009, but a 27.84 percent jump on May 2009.
"HTC's 2Q earnings result is better than its original 2Q guidance, both June and 2Q revenues continuously hit record high shows good execution of brand strategy and grow scale strategy," said a very understated press release. It looks like HTC could do with a bit of a boost to its communications efforts.
While HTC shifted a fair few Windows Mobile-based HD2s, its year-on-year improvement must be primarily down to its Android handsets. The high-end Desire seems to have been especially popular, helped by the close collaboration HTC had with Google in the development of sister product - the Nexus One.
