Un-boxing day
It looks like one day of eating turkey, setting fire to raisins and falling asleep in front of Bond movies is quite enough for the British public, as festive period e-tail figures reveal a shopping frenzy occurred on Boxing Day last year.
Web traffic tracker Hitwise has revealed a predictable build-up in e-tail activity in the UK, during the run-up to Christmas, which tailed-off closer to the day as people did their last-minute shopping on the high street, were they're not hostage to the whims of the weather or the postal service.
The day after presumably opening loads of presents and generally over-indulging, the UK public descended on the web with renewed vigour to buy loads more stuff. The appeal, of course is The Sales, and of all years, you can understand consumers reserving some of their Christmas cash until the 26th in the hope of snapping up a bargain.
The three Hitwise tables below show overall traffic in Q4 of last year, the most popular e-tailer on Boxing Day, and the most popular search terms containing "sale". It's interesting that, despite Next being clearly the most popular sale, it was still only fourth among the e-tailers.
