Bigger broadband

As we anticipated yesterday, the yearlong saga over who will buy the UK assets of Italian ISP Tiscali has finally come to a conclusion, with Carphone Warehouse's (CPW) ISP arm - TalkTalk - announcing a proposed £236 million acquisition today.

The deal will give TalkTalk 1.45 million broadband customers in the UK and will make it the second biggest ISP in the UK behind BT. TalkTalk has set up a welcome page for Tiscali customers.

In a live webcast CPW CEO Charles Dunstone spoke of the synergies this deal will create and how it will put TalkTalk in a stronger position to negotiate with BT. The transition won't be easy, however, with customer migration, network integration and billing integration all cited as issues to be overcome. The Tiscali brand is expected to remain.

Here are a few slides from the webcast:

A company with shocking customer services gets taken over by another company with shocking customer services. No really a good thing in my book.
Talk about the blind leading the blind
I don't think they can mess up my freedom2surf connection any more than tiscali already has!
Excellent stuff, now to look forward to an even worse connection for the remaining few months at home before the 3rd year of uni.
In the days of dialup I was with Lineone, who were very good but got brought out by Tiscali:censored:. Later I had broadband with Pipex who were also very good, but were brought out by Tiscali:censored:. At least now the ISP wont be brought out by Tiscali, although knowing my luck it will be brought by Sky:surrender:.
