Getting personal

Not content with enticing Curtis ‘Mojy' Chian, the chief liaison between TSMC and his former employer Altera, the word on the street is that GlobalFoundries (GF) is going for the jugular by poaching one of TSMC's most senior designers to defect to the other side.

Subramani Kengeri is senior director, design and technology platform at TSMC and head of its US design centre in San Jose. We understand that GF is due to announce his appointment any day now and it will represent a major coup for the newly spun-off semiconductor manufacturer.

GF has made no secret of its desire to plunder market share from TSMC, which is currently the top dog in the semiconductor foundry world. What better way to do so than by nicking its best people and, in so doing, importing priceless new customer relationships?

Oh, and if this move wasn't already aggressive enough, it turns out that Kengeri was one of the key architects of the historic collaboration between Intel and TSMC announced a couple of months ago.
