On Wednesday, AMD (NYSE: AMD) exec Patrick Moorhead told HEXUS.channel the ways in which he thinks Intel’s (NASDAQ: INTC) new notebook platform, Centrino 2, falls short in its graphics performance.
Today, we heard from Alistair Kemp, business and technology PR manager for Intel UK, and he offered us this response to the comments.
“The new Intel Centrino 2 notebooks, based on discrete and integrated graphics, are readily available from OEMs. Centrino 2’s GM45 integrated graphics chipset includes dedicated hardware decoders for all Blu-ray HD codecs, and the GM45’s execution units actually do post processing work on every single frame increasing its visual fidelity.
“All this is at a very low power cost, so
GM45 coupled with the more efficient 25W Core 2 Duo gives an outstanding low
power, high battery life and high definition experience – i.e. better Blu-ray
and typically you will enjoy an entire movie on a single charge.
“In short, our laptops are some two generations ahead of any competitive
offering and wildly popular. There are a number of mis-statements and
assumptions here, and in general we feel that any company should have more than
enough good things to say about their own products versus spending time
misrepresenting others.”
