More brownie points for semiconductor manufacturer

Intel has got to be feeling mighty good about itself right now. It's main competition continues to struggle and in the meantime, Intel continues to soak up the limelight.

Today's dose of "God bless Intel" comes from CRO Magazine, it's annual list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens" has been published and yep, do-no-wrong Intel is top of the list.

The list is based on research and analysis by IW Financial and identifies companies that best combine business objectives with responsible practises across eight categories: environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, lobbying, philanthropy and financial performance.

With a big smile we're sure, Intel's Corporate Affairs Group's general manager, William Swope said:

"At Intel, we define success not only by our business performance, but how we transform the world in which we live and work. We invest a great deal of effort and resources toward corporate responsibility and have high expectations for ethical conduct in all parts of our business. This recognition is a testament to the ongoing work and commitment of our employees worldwide."

Intel is no doubt proud to feature at the top of the list, but it's also likely to be secretly happy that its main rival, AMD, doesn't feature on the list at all.

The US based list has been published annually for the past nine years and only three companies; Intel, Cisco and Starbucks have featured on the list every year. If however the EU's investigation into Intel's alleged abuse of its position in the CPU market provides a negative outcome, 2009 could be the first year Intel fails to make the list.
