  • Ian Smith heads up integrated advertising, digital and media team

Orange UK today announces the appointment of Ian Smith as the new Head of Brand Communications. Ian will commence his role on 20th July 2009 and will be responsible for the advertising, digital and media strategy of Orange UK. Ian takes over this role from Spencer McHugh following Spencer's appointment as UK Brand Director of Orange.

Ian joined Orange UK in 2003 as Advertising Manager but quickly moved up into the role of Head of Media where he delivered a number of successful campaigns across all media in the advertising team as well as the crucial role he played in appointing MEC to handle Orange's media planning and buying business. In September 2008, Ian took on the role of acting Head of Brand and Sponsorship Partnerships where he led Orange's strategy in this area and maintained existing partnerships including the high profile Orange Wednesdays, Orange British Academy Film Awards and Orange RockCorps.

Spencer McHugh, Brand Director for Orange UK said: "Ian has been instrumental in the success of media, advertising, sponsorship and partnership programmes for Orange UK and brings with him a wealth of brand and communications experience and expertise. I look forward to working closely with Ian in his new role to continue to strengthen our brand which when used in the right way, is our most powerful and inspiring asset."

Ian will be replaced in his role of Head of Brand and Sponsorship Partnerships by Hattie Magee when she returns from maternity leave on 20th July 2009.
