Desktop diversification
If you take market research figures literally, it's easy to conclude the desktop PC market is in terminal decline as consumers and businesses increasingly turn to mobile PCs.
The reality, however, is that demand for desktops is becoming increasingly polarised. While the overall number desktop units shipped has been in steady decline for some time, the market for higher end gaming/enthusiast PCs has remained quite stable.
Further evidence of this is the apparently strong demand for such systems over here, as indicated by the growing number of domestic system builders operating in this market, the latest of which is Midland Computers.
Midland has been in the system building business for over ten years, but has primarily had a business focus. However, it was often asked to build PCs for some of the individuals it worked with and decided it had the requisite expertise and resources to produce a more formal consumer offering.
In our latest Talking Shop, we speak to Hedley Corcoran and Philip Brown, who are the sales director and technical sales manager respectively at Midland. As well as announcing the creation of Midland Premier, they discuss trends in the PC market and how they choose their components.
