Baltic Dry
The last indicator to show a rise was the Baltic Dry Index. This is an index based on the costs of shipping commodities like iron ore, which can provide a barometer of industrial activity. It experienced its biggest one day rise in 25 years earlier this week, according to the FT.
Again, the FT article was quick to chuck in words of caution: "We are off ground zero, but I don't think we are going to fly to the stratosphere any time soon," said Steve Rodley, shipping hedge fund manager, in the piece.
