A future unhampered...

HEXUS asked Meyer whether he was worried about allocation issues over the coming year, as both AMD and NVIDIA recently noted they would have sold more graphics cards if only TSMC had given them more wafers. "Obviously we had some issues at 40nm, but we're getting past that," Meyer told us, claiming he didn't believe there would be any allocation issues over the coming year.

"Obviously it's a great situation when you sell out of everything that you have," he went on, but said he didn't expect consumers to have too many problems getting their hands on AMD products. As Rick Bergman noted a little later on during the day, "we may sell out a little quickly, but it's like the Nintendo Wii, if you really want it, you have to work that bit harder to get it."

HEXUS went on to ask Meyer whether he felt more of a threat from Intel or NVIDIA, to which the CEO was quick to answer "Intel, because they are the bigger company with 10 times more resources."

Meyer had noted earlier in the day that he was looking forward to AMD having its day in court against Intel in the next few months, in Delaware, adding he felt vindicated by the EU decision earlier this year. "We've said for a long time that our business was hampered by anticompetitive behaviour," said Meyer, adding "I'm looking forward to a future unhampered."

He will have known about the impending announcement of the settlement between AMD and Intel, so credit where it's due for keeping a straight face. Remind us not to challenge Meyer to a game of poker anytime soon.

Seems like wishful thinking really. Intel have so much money they will just strangle AMD with research and innovation. I think unless AMD come out with something spectacular they are going to struggle to catch up with the competition.
