Benchmarks: Power Consumption
Low idle power consumption is one of the highlights of modern PCs. Intel SpeedStep technology ensures that the overclocked Core i7 processor consumes very little power when idle, as reflected in the system-wide power-draw graph above.
However, applying 1.3V and a hefty overclock does introduce unique pros and cons. On the one hand CPU benchmark performance is excellent, yet on the other hand power consumption does rise.
Playing Aliens vs. Predator calls both the CPU and GPU into action, and results in system-wide power consumption nudging past the 300-watt mark. An expected trade-off, considering the amount of in-game performance that's on offer.
