Conclusion

...on first inspection we come away feeling as though Buffalo hasn't done enough to make its dual-bay NAS a genuine contender.

Buffalo is looking to revitalise its NAS efforts with new additions to its LinkStation and TeraStation portfolio.

Progress is being made through hardware revisions and software upgrades, and the advancements are most keenly felt on the consumer-focussed LinkStation 520, whose software overhaul puts Buffalo back in the frame.

Improvements to the business-class TeraStation 3200 are less thorough, and on first inspection we come away feeling as though Buffalo hasn't done enough to make its dual-bay NAS a genuine contender.

The TS3200's potential is ultimately stifled through basic hardware, disappointing performance and an outdated user interface, and that's a shame as Buffalo's three-year warranty with 24-hour disk exchange could have been a genuine attraction.

The Good

The Bad
Concealed, lockable drive trays
Onboard display is useful
Bundled NovaBackup licenses
24-hour HDD exchange for 3 years

No diskless option
Sluggish performance
Tired-looking user interface
No USB 3.0 ports

Buffalo's storage kit has never been great, to be fair. Well worth spending more on synology or qnap!
