The PSU

XFX has always been a company to do things its own way. The graphics-like colour - for NVIDIA, at least - carries on over to the PSU.

The light-green fan creates a nice contrast to the rest of the chassis, and XFX has even paid a little more attention than normal to the grille that's actually a part of the enclosure. The styling is only beneficial if your PSU mounts a certain way and you have a windowed case.

Further design cues are found with the sticker livery on both sides.

Look at the back and the ventilation section is better-perforated than on most other PSUs'. Keeping things simple, the only addition is the on/off power switch.

Inside, as technology hardware companies are keen to promote, the PSU uses Japanese-made primary and secondary capacitors.

The supply uses DC-to-DC circuitry, meaning that the lesser-used 3.3V and 5V lines are derived directly from the 12V, keeping efficiency high.

A total of eight modular connectors are available, with the right-hand side duo reserved for the additional PEGs.

The support of multi-GPU setups is a must for any high-wattage supply. XFX's has the official blessing of both ATI and NVIDIA, although three-way NVIDIA GTX-based setups require 1,000W+ for certification.

Aesthetically rather different from the rest on the outside, the internals betray the fact that the supply is manufactured on behalf of XFX by industry heavyweight Seasonic. Indeed, the design is ostensibly based on the more expensive 850KM model.
