The CPU Cooler

Also included in the kit is a CPU Cooler. Intel processors are often shipped with a stock heatsink and fan. Although this cooler is adequately suitable for the CPU it can often be noisy and unsuitable for overclocking the CPU to higher speeds. The FSP Silent Solution Kit is available with either an Intel Pentium 4 Cooler or an AMD CPU Cooler.

In order to test how well the FSP CPU Cooler was I took readings of the CPU temperature when idle and when under full load. I used Prime95 to stress test my system in order to put the CPU under full load.

Intel CPU Cooler Contents

  • Heatsink and Fan
  • Thermal Grease
  • P4 Bracket
  • P4 Backplate
  • 2 x P4 Installation Clips
  • Screw Pack
FSP have also included in the kit the necessary brackets to install the CPU Cooler to your motherboard. The bracket and back plate along with the necessary screws can be installed to the motherboard in a matter of seconds. The Heatsink is then positioned into this bracket and held in place with the 2 clips. These clips hold the heatsink securely on top of the CPU.

The 70mm fan attached to the CPU is also a thermally controlled fan. As the temperature rises the fan increases in speed to provide more efficient cooling. The base of the heatsink is very smooth, almost a mirror finish. By having a very smooth base to the heatsink it provides a better contact with the CPU.
