Overclocking

Overclocking has been something of a hit-and-miss affair with LGA775 motherboards. For one reason or another, a number of boards have only hit modest speeds, around 220MHz FSB or so. We know that the i865PE chipset has a definite pedigree for overclocking, so we were initially optimistic. That optimism was backed up by a rock-steady FSB overclock of 240MHz. 250MHz FSB was generally stable, too.

Thanks to a semi-unlocked processor, I was able to run 240MHz FSB with an overall clock speed of 3.6GHz. However, memory timings were a rather high 2-5-4-4-8.

I re-ran Pifast and 3DMark2001SE to see how a higher FSB speed and memory timings fared.

A case of a higher FSB's impact being offset by higher memory timings.

The same can be said here. 20696 marks isn't too bad.
